The "Surface" and "Substance" of Granules: Three Refinement Stages in Organic Fertilizer Granulation

In the organic fertilizer industry, the external appearance and internal quality of granules are often discussed in isolation—some focus solely on roundness, while others care only about nutrient content. However, true market competitiveness stems from a balance between the two. The organic fertilizer disc granulator, the new-type two-in-one granulator, and the ball-shaping machine represent three progressive refinement stages in the granulation process: pellet formation, integration, and shaping. Together, they answer a key question: how to ensure granules possess both a polished exterior ("face") and high-quality substance ("inner core").
The disc granulator addresses the initial stage of creation—transforming raw material into granules. Its core component is an inclined disc; dry powder material is continuously fed into it while atomizing nozzles add the appropriate amount of water. Driven by the combined forces of centrifugal action, friction, and gravity, the material tumbles along a parabolic trajectory, allowing moist fine powder to accumulate in layers—much like rolling a snowball—and gradually grow in size. The disc's inclination angle is typically adjustable between 35 and 55 degrees, and the rotation speed is inversely proportional to the disc diameter; operators must fine-tune these parameters in real-time based on fluctuations in material moisture and fiber content.

The new-type two-in-one organic fertilizer granulator takes a different approach, combining the initial formation stage and the refinement stage into a single process. This equipment integrates mixing and granulation functions into one unit, utilizing a multi-stage internal processing structure. For high-moisture, high-fiber materials—such as fermented chicken manure or crop stalks—mixing teeth first subject the material to intense shearing and kneading, followed by pellet formation and preliminary rounding within the drum. While traditional processes require a series of four separate machines (mixing-tooth granulator, elevator, buffer bin, and rounding machine), the two-in-one model completes the two-step forming process with a single machine, significantly reducing both equipment investment costs and the required floor space.
The organic fertilizer ball-shaping machine centrifugal force via a high-speed rotating disc, causing granules to tumble, rub against one another, and undergo mutual compression within the shaping chamber. Rather than relying on external pressure, this process utilizes the granules' own movement to achieve "self-polishing": sharp edges are gradually rounded off, while surface micro-depressions are compacted and smoothed. Crucially, this friction and compression further reduce internal voids, resulting in a denser structure and significantly higher compressive strength, making the granules resistant to breakage and moisture absorption during storage. Following this spheronization process, the granules typically achieve a sphericity exceeding 95%, meeting commercial standards for flowability and visual uniformity.
These three stages are typically arranged in series within a complete organic fertilizer production line: the disc granulator handles the initial formation of spherical nuclei from powdered raw materials; the "two-in-one" granulator employs an integrated approach to streamline the transition from wet material to formed pellets; and the spheronizer performs the final finishing touches. Each stage addresses a specific aspect—the disc granulator focuses on volume, the two-in-one unit on process simplification, and the spheronizer on quality—yet the ultimate goal remains the same: ensuring that every granule emerging from the production line can withstand the rigors of the journey from warehouse to field.
